Construction is a financial business. Most contractors run it like a field business.

Janak Inc provides CPA-led financial and accounting leadership to contractors, builders, and owners. Job costing that reflects reality, WIP schedules your bank and surety trust, and the systems that produce them.

Who we work with

Wherever the money and the work need to line up.

Janak Inc works across the construction industry, from the trade contractor tracking retainage to the owner verifying a draw request.

General contractors

Job cost integrity, WIP and percentage-of-completion reporting, and financial systems that hold up under bank and surety review.

Custom and residential builders

Cost visibility by job and by phase, allowance and change order discipline, and a close-out process that protects margin.

Specialty and trade contractors

Cost coding that reflects how you actually work, billing and retainage tracking, and cash flow you can forecast.

Owners and developers

Independent financial oversight of your project. Contract review, draw verification, change order scrutiny, and someone whose only job is protecting your money.

Services

Engagements range from a focused project to ongoing financial leadership.

Most clients start with one and grow into the others.

Where most clients start

JobTread and QuickBooks Online implementation

The integration itself is straightforward. Getting the architecture right is not.

How cost codes and cost items map to your chart of accounts determines whether your job cost reports mean anything, and it is expensive to unwind once transactions are flowing through it. That mapping is the work, and it is the part most implementations get wrong.

Janak Inc handles selection, setup, and implementation of construction management software, with deep specialization in JobTread and its integration with QuickBooks Online.

  • Chart of accounts and cost code architecture
  • Items and services alignment between systems
  • Sync configuration and rules
  • Historical cleanup and data remediation
  • Workflow setup and team training

Construction accounting and financial reporting

Job cost accounting that produces decisions, not just history. WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, over and under billing analysis, and the month-end close discipline that makes the numbers reliable.

Reporting that holds up when your lender, surety, or owner asks for it, without a scramble every time.

Fractional controller and CFO services

Senior financial leadership without a full-time hire. Ongoing oversight of job costing, cash flow forecasting, margin analysis by job and by division, banking and bonding relationships, and the financial reporting cadence that lets you run the business instead of react to it.

Owner representation

Independent representation for owners building or renovating, from pre-construction through close-out.

Most owners have an architect and a builder, and no one whose sole obligation is to them. Janak Inc fills that seat.

  • Builder contract review before you sign
  • Budget and allowance schedules scrubbed for realism
  • Monthly draw requests verified against actual progress rather than approved on faith
  • Change orders examined for whether they are genuinely additional scope
  • Close-out enforced so the final punch list is short and the warranty period is quiet

Delivered on site or remotely, using live project data from your builder's construction management platform.

Operations and process consulting

Process design for construction organizations: cost coding structures, approval and authority frameworks, project close-out procedures, and the documentation that makes a process survive turnover.

Includes Finish First, a close-out methodology built on a simple premise. Projects have a way of ending well and traveling badly. Most items that blow up a final punch list were never punch list problems. They were trade close-out problems that got buried months earlier, and by the time anyone is holding a clipboard it is too late to address them.

Finish First inverts the sequence. It starts from a defined picture of the finished project on delivery day and works backward to establish what each trade must clear before the next one covers it. The final walk stops being an inspection that discovers problems and becomes a confirmation of work already verified.

The result is what we call the Clean Walk: a final walkthrough where the list is short, every item on it is genuinely fixable in days, and nothing requires opening finished work.

How we work

Get it right before it is buried.

The same principle runs through everything here.

In the field, an item missed before drywall goes up costs many times more to fix afterward. In the books, a cost code structure set up carelessly in month one distorts every job report that follows it. Both are cheap to get right at the start and expensive to correct later.

That is where Janak Inc concentrates: the decisions early in a project or an implementation that determine whether the outcome is clean or painful.

Independent by design.

Janak Inc sells no software and holds no ownership interest in any contractor, supplier, or software vendor.

Where Janak Inc has a referral relationship or participates in a partner program that pays a fee, that relationship is disclosed to the client before any recommendation is made. The advice is the product.

About

Kimberlee Augustine, CPA

Founder, Janak Inc
Longview, Texas

Certified Public Accountant

Kimberlee Augustine has spent her career at the intersection of accounting and operations.

In 2005 she founded DMS & Associates, building it into a full back office and accounting outsourcing firm serving businesses that needed real financial infrastructure rather than a bookkeeper. She grew the firm over eighteen years and sold it in 2023.

She founded Janak Inc to focus that experience on construction, an industry where the gap between the field and the financial statements causes more damage than almost anywhere else. Her work centers on closing that gap: cost data that reflects what actually happened on the job, reporting that holds up to outside scrutiny, and processes that continue working after the consultant leaves.
